New Delhi: The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic proved that Taiwan is an integral part of the global public health network and that the Taiwanese model can help other countries combat the pandemic. Thus, in recognition of President Tsai Ing-wen government’s resilience characterized by speed, vigilance, and decisiveness – Taiwan will be leading the upcoming 2020 Indo-Pacific Business Forum.

The forum organized by the United States and its regional partners will witness the experiences of countries in fighting COVID-19.

According to a release issued by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), this will be ‘the first time Taipei leads its own session at the annual forum, which is being held this year in Hanoi on October 28 and 29 in a joint physical and virtual format.’ The release read ‘the Taiwan discussion topic titled Taiwan Model on COVID-19: Forging public-private partners in the medical industry’ will be hosted by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

It further added that TAITRA’s Chairman James Huang will share information about Taiwan’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention experience and its efforts to develop public and private partners across the medical-health sector to fight the virus.

Washington’s Under Secretary Keith Krach, in a video message on the AIT’s official Facebook page, has encouraged interested people to sign up for the forum. He has urged people not to worry about COVID-19, as everyone can attend the event virtually. Krach said that ‘the forum shows our commitment to partnering our co-host Vietnam as well as countries across the Indo-Pacific to promote free markets and democratic principles.’

In addition to the Taiwan session, the forum will also feature a discussion on infrastructure investment in the Indo-Pacific region, challenges and opportunities in the Indo-Pacific digital economy, and smart sustainable cities in the region.
