Nine-year-old Swara Patil from Vasai-Virar in Maharashtra has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the youngest girl from Vasai-Virar in Palghar district to trek to the Mount Everest Base Camp.

Situated in Nepal, the Everest Base Camp is perched at an altitude of over 17,500 feet (5364 meters). Swara, a resident of Vasai Umelman village, embarked on this challenging 12-day trek alongside her father, Digambar Patil, as well as Sherpa Janga and porter Preman. Swara’s determination and courage have been evident through her successful completion of numerous mountaineering expeditions in the past.

Prior to this achievement, Swara successfully scaled several peaks, including Maharashtra’s highest peak, Kalsubai (1646 meters), the Himalayan peak of Sarpas (4220 meters), and now the Everest Base Camp (5364 meters) in Nepal. Additionally, she has conquered various forts in Maharashtra as part of her climbing expeditions. Harshvardhan Joshi, a native of Vasai who reached the summit of Mount Everest in 2021, is providing training and guidance to Swara in her trekking endeavors.

Swara is currently a student in the fourth grade at Carmelite Convent English High School in Vasai. Her climbing pursuits have consistently received support from the school’s principal. At just nine years of age, Swara, having successfully completed demanding Himalayan climbing expeditions, is gaining recognition not only in Vasai-Virar but throughout the entire state of Maharashtra as an exceptional child climber.
