Sonamarg, a picturesque tourist resort, witnessed a series of impactful events as part of the Swachita Pakhwada campaign, aimed at promoting sanitation and cleanliness. The main event unfolded near the bustling main market of Sonamarg, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic stakeholders who actively participated in the cleanliness drive.

The Sonamarg Development Authority, in collaboration with various key departments such as Tourism, JKTDC, Forest, Police, and stakeholders from trade, transport, hospitality, and other sectors, orchestrated a comprehensive effort to enhance cleanliness in the region.

Multiple areas within the market, narrow bylanes, the transport stand, and riverfront were the focus of attention, with teams diligently collecting polythene, plastic, food wrappers, and other solid waste in substantial quantities. Additionally, a sanitation and plantation drive took place in the Youth Hostel area of Sonamarg, where conifers were planted. This initiative further strengthened environmental preservation, thanks to the collaboration with the forest department and other stakeholders.

Another significant event unfolded in the hotel area, where a majority of hoteliers joined hands with the Sonamarg Development Authority and the tourism department to conduct a thorough sanitation drive. This effort extended not only across the hotel premises but also along the roadsides and the picturesque green meadow areas.

The events garnered significant attention from tourists who were present to witness and appreciate the dedicated efforts of stakeholders in maintaining the pristine beauty of this tourist destination. Substantial quantities of solid waste were collected during the sanitation drive, subsequently transported to the solid waste management plant in Sarbal for proper disposal, underlining the commitment to responsible waste management.
