New Delhi: NCP (Sharad Pawar) MP Supriya Sule spoke in the Lok Sabha in support of the Protection of Interests in Aircraft Objects Bill, while also highlighting key challenges in India’s aviation sector. She congratulated Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu and MoS Murlidhar Mohol, who hails from Pune, for introducing the bill. However, she pointed out that while the legislation is a positive step, it has come too late. Sule emphasised that the government should have intervened earlier, especially when Indian airlines with a global presence were struggling.

She also acknowledged the contributions of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, stating that his policies had truly opened up Indian skies and positioned India as a key player in the global aviation industry. Stressing the need for a more efficient dispute resolution mechanism, she called for concrete timelines to ensure faster resolution of industry disputes.

Sule further urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to adopt a more interactive and approachable stance towards airlines, which would improve coordination and regulatory clarity. Raising concerns about high fuel prices, she emphasised the need to reduce taxes on aviation fuel and encouraged the government to explore the use of green fuels, aligning with global sustainability trends.

She concluded by stressing that affordable air travel, sustainable policies, and a robust regulatory framework are essential for India’s aviation sector to remain competitive in the global market.
