Supreme Court to Hear Shiv Sena Symbol Dispute on July 14

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday took up a plea filed by the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction, seeking urgent directions against the Election Commission’s decision in the ongoing party symbol dispute between the two rival Sena factions.

During the hearing, counsel representing the UBT faction submitted that with elections in Maharashtra expected to be notified soon, any delay in resolving the dispute could lead to complications. The counsel argued that once election dates are announced, party symbols cannot be altered, making it crucial for interim arrangements to be made.

The legal battle over the party symbol has been pending before the apex court for nearly two years, following the 2022 split in the Shiv Sena. The UBT faction has challenged the Election Commission’s decision to allot the original party name and symbol to the rival faction led by Eknath Shinde.

After considering the submissions, the Supreme Court deferred the matter and scheduled the next hearing for July 14, 2025.
