New Delhi: The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) has given a clean chit to the Vantara Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Gujarat’s Jamnagar, clearing the centre of allegations of legal violations and improper acquisition of animals.

A bench comprising Justices Pankaj Mithal and P B Varale took note of the SIT report on Monday, stating that authorities have expressed satisfaction regarding compliance and regulatory measures implemented at Vantara.

The SIT submitted its report on Friday, which the apex court perused on Monday, noting that Vantara had followed proper procedures in the rescue, rehabilitation, and acquisition of animals, including elephants, from within India and abroad.

The Supreme Court, which constituted the SIT on August 25, had directed a fact-finding inquiry following allegations that Vantara was not complying with laws related to wildlife management and animal acquisition. After reviewing the report, the top court indicated that it will issue a detailed order later in the day.
