A routine hearing in the Supreme Court on Friday took an unexpected turn after a litigant appearing without a lawyer allegedly created a disturbance inside the courtroom by throwing documents towards the Bench and using abusive language. The incident unfolded during the hearing of a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before a Bench comprising Justice K.V. Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe.
A video of the confrontation later surfaced on social media, drawing widespread attention.
‘Mr Judicial Servant, I Order You…’
The petitioner, identified as Prabal Pratap, had approached the apex court after the Allahabad High Court rejected his challenge related to a complaint under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
As the matter was called, the petitioner addressed the judges by saying, “Mr Judicial servant, I order you to order the registration of an FIR against ACP Vikas Nagar, Lucknow.”
Reacting to the unusual statement, Justice K.V. Viswanathan asked, “You are ordering me? You are ordering us?”
Papers Thrown, Security Removes Litigant
Shortly after the exchange, the petitioner allegedly lost his temper and hurled case papers in the direction of the Bench. He also allegedly used abusive remarks against the Chief Justice of India, prompting immediate intervention by Supreme Court security personnel.
The litigant was restrained and escorted out of the courtroom, while the judges remained composed throughout the incident.
Court Resumes Work After Disruption
Following the removal of the petitioner, the Bench continued with the day’s listed matters without further interruption.
The case before the court related to allegations of police inaction and challenged an Allahabad High Court order concerning a complaint linked to alleged cybercrime. Reports indicate that the Supreme Court dismissed the Special Leave Petition, and no immediate action was initiated regarding the courtroom misconduct.
