In a recent social media post, BJP leader and former cabinet minister Subramanian Swamy once again directed sharp criticism towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to him as a ‘Kaam Chalau Prime Minister’. Swamy’s remarks come amidst Modi’s ongoing visit to Bhutan, which has sparked controversy due to its timing coinciding with the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections schedule.

Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Bhutan starting March 22, with the trip being rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions in the region. Despite the formalities of the upcoming General Elections, Swamy expressed disapproval of Modi’s international engagement, stating, “It is silly that a Prime Minister wants to go to a foreign country when the formalities of General Elections have been set. Modi is not Prime Minister but an ad hoc PM. Such Kaam Chalau PMs should not go abroad and represent Bharat.”

During his visit, Modi was bestowed with the highest Bhutanese civilian honor, the Order of the Druk Gyalpo, making him the first foreign head of state to receive this prestigious accolade. Expressing gratitude, Modi dedicated the award to the 140 crore people of India and reiterated his commitment to further strengthening the ties between India and Bhutan for the mutual benefit of both nations.

While some defended Modi’s visit, suggesting it may have been planned prior to the election announcement, others speculated about its strategic significance in countering Chinese influence in the region.
