Mumbai: Activists of the Chhatra Bharati gathered at the Mumbai University’s Kalina campus on Monday to protest the objectionable remarks made by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The students demanded the removal of Koshyari, threatening to intensify the protests across the state.
The protest was organised by Chhatra Bharati at the Kalina Campus of Mumbai University on the occasion of the death anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. The slogans such as ‘Chancellor go back’ among others, were raised, highlighting how the Maratha Warrior King is revered in Maharashtra.
Rohit Dhale, state president of Chhatra Bharati, said that the objectionable remarks are being made repeatedly against the iconic leaders of Maharashtra by the people occupying the constitutional posts and leaders from the ruling party.
“There is a strong sentiment among the people against those making such remarks. Today, the students have taken to the streets. Tomorrow, the labourers will take to the streets to protest. The protests will be held against these objectionable remarks at all universities and colleges across the state. We will also hold a huge protest at the Raj Bhavan. Maharashtra will not keep quiet until the governor is removed,” said Dhale.
For this protest, Jalindar Sarode of the Mumbai Graduate Forum, Radhika Mahankal of Shikshak Bharati, Sharad Giramkar of the Junior College Unit, Chandrakant Mhatre of Rashtra Seva Dal, Amir Qazi of the AISF, Samya Korde of the PSU, Lokshahi Yuva Sanghtana, Satyashodhak Yuva Sanghtana, office bearers of Chhatra Bharati, students, activists, and professors were present.
