In a historic move reflecting the cultural and religious significance of the Lord Shri Ram ‘Pran Prathistha’ ceremony in Ayodhya, several states across India have declared a public holiday on January 22. This decision, aimed at allowing citizens to participate in or observe the momentous event, has been embraced by various states, each making specific announcements regarding the closure of government institutions.

States Declaring Public Holiday:

  1. Maharashtra:
    • All schools, colleges, and state government offices will be closed for the day.
    • Central government offices, institutions, and industrial establishments will remain closed until 2:30 pm.
  2. Haryana:
    • All government offices, including boards, schools, colleges, corporations, and universities, will remain closed until 2:30 pm.
  3. Madhya Pradesh:
    • All government offices will remain closed until 2:30 pm.

Legal Fraternity’s Request for a Holiday: In addition to the state declarations, the Bar Council of India (BCI) chairman, Manan Kumar Mishra, has written a letter to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. Mishra’s letter requests the declaration of a holiday in all courts across the country on January 22, 2024. This plea aims to facilitate active participation by members of the legal fraternity and court staff in the Ayodhya Ram Temple inauguration ceremonies and related events.
