Did Varsha Gaikwad ‘Abuse’ Kiren Rijiju Inside Speaker’s Chamber? Video Triggers Political Storm

New Delhi: A video clip purportedly recorded inside the Lok Sabha Speaker’s chamber has ignited a fresh political controversy, drawing sharp reactions from both the ruling BJP and the Congress.

The footage, which surfaced on social media, shows a group of Congress MPs engaged in a tense exchange inside Speaker Om Birla’s office. Among those visible in the clip is Maharashtra Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad, who appears to be speaking animatedly and gesturing during the confrontation. The audio captures raised voices, though specific words are indistinct.

The video was shared online by BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari, who accused Congress lawmakers of misconduct within the Speaker’s chamber. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju subsequently alleged that nearly two dozen Congress MPs had entered the Speaker’s office and behaved in an unruly manner.

Rijiju claimed he was present during the incident and described it as a violation of parliamentary decorum. He further alleged that abusive language was used during the confrontation, though the viral clip does not clearly confirm the nature of the remarks made.

While Rijiju did not directly name Varsha Gaikwad in his public statement, her presence in the video has placed her at the centre of the debate. The Union minister also suggested that senior Congress leaders were involved in the episode and encouraged the protest inside the chamber.

As of now, Gaikwad has not issued an official response to the allegations.

The controversy unfolds against the backdrop of ongoing friction between the government and the opposition in Parliament. Congress and allied parties have recently submitted a notice seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla, alleging bias in the conduct of proceedings. The government, on the other hand, has accused the opposition of repeatedly disrupting parliamentary functioning.
