Some parties are misguiding & trying to agitate without the support of farmers: Devendra Fadnavis

@the_news_21

Farmers of Maharashtra have gathered at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan to oppose Centre’s new farm laws, opposing this Devendra Fadnavis has slammed Maha Vikas Aaghadi allies for ‘trying to agitate without the support of farmers’.

“Some parties are misguiding & trying to agitate without the support of farmers,” Fadnavis was quoted as saying by the news agency.

While speaking about the Centre’s farm laws, he asked as to why Congress and NCP permitted contract farming in 2006 in the state. “It is okay to have contract farming in the state but wrong when Centre brings out the same. What double standard is it?,” he added.

Even Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has called the protest a publicity stunt. The central government is on the farmers’ side and ready to give justice to the peasants, he asserted.

Thousands of farmers from across Maharashtra have reached Mumbai to participate in a rally in the state capital on Monday against the Centre’s three new farm laws and to support farmers’ bodies agitating near Delhi over the issue.

Athawale noted that the Supreme Court recently stayed the implementation of the three new farm laws, and the Centre has also proposed to suspend the legislations for two years.

“This march (in Mumbai) is not at all required because the Supreme Court has stayed the implementation of the Acts.

“The government has proposed to suspend the laws for two years. Hence, the agitation is only for publicity,” he told Marathi news channel ‘ABP Majha’.
