Telangana: Rescue teams have traced another worker’s body in the early hours of Tuesday inside the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, where eight workers were trapped after the tunnel collapsed on February 22. The body is in a difficult position, and teams are making intensive efforts to retrieve it.
A rescue team official confirmed, “Today, in the early morning hours, we found another dead body stuck in a position, and we are currently working to retrieve it.” Earlier, on March 9, the body of Gurpreet Singh was recovered.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had announced an ex-gratia of ₹25 lakh for the families of the deceased and directed officials to expedite the rescue operations. He appointed senior IAS officer Shiva Shankar Loteti as a Special Officer to monitor the efforts continuously.
In a high-level review meeting at the Assembly Hall on Monday, CM Revanth Reddy was briefed on the rescue progress by State Special Chief Secretary to Disaster Management Arvind Kumar and Colonel Parikshit Mehra. The meeting was attended by Ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Jupally Krishna Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, and other senior officials.
Officials reported that 700 personnel from 25 agencies—including Central, State, and private organizations—are involved in the massive rescue operation. Teams are working tirelessly to remove debris, dismantle parts of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), clear soil mounds, silt, and seepage water inside the tunnel. A PowerPoint presentation was also made to explain the current rescue situation and ongoing operations.
