Sindhudurg Tourism Gets Fresh Push Under ‘One State, One Destination’ Initiative

District-level action plan to focus on tourism circuits, infrastructure, digital promotion, local culture and community participation

Sindhudurgnagari: Sindhudurg’s tourism sector is set to receive a fresh impetus under the Maharashtra government’s ambitious ‘One State, One Destination’ initiative, with the district administration beginning preliminary planning for its implementation.

A meeting to discuss the initiative was held at the District Collector’s Office on July 17 under the chairpersonship of District Collector Trupti Dhodmise. The discussions focused on developing Sindhudurg’s tourism potential in a comprehensive and coordinated manner.

Dhodmise said Sindhudurg possesses a unique combination of natural beauty, historical heritage, beaches, forts, rural tourism opportunities and vibrant local culture. She directed all concerned departments to work together to establish the district as a prominent tourism destination at the national and international levels.

“The initiative will be implemented through coordination between the administration and local communities. This is expected to strengthen tourism activity across the district,” she said.

The meeting discussed the identification and development of tourist destinations, improvement of infrastructure and visitor amenities, cleanliness, transportation facilities, tourism information centres and digital promotion. Participants also deliberated on ways to showcase Sindhudurg’s local arts, cuisine and cultural identity while ensuring greater community participation.

Officials from the concerned departments were instructed to compile the necessary information and prepare a comprehensive action plan for the district’s tourism development.

Tourism Directorate Director Mangesh Joshi explained the objectives and implementation framework of the ‘One State, One Destination’ initiative. He said that after the preliminary planning stage, detailed proposals submitted by the concerned departments would be reviewed before a comprehensive implementation plan is finalised.

Joshi expressed confidence that the initiative would strengthen Sindhudurg’s tourism brand, generate local employment, encourage entrepreneurship and contribute to the district’s economic growth.

Amit Kamat made a detailed presentation on the initiative and outlined projects proposed for the coming years. The meeting also explored ideas such as creating integrated tourism circuits, branding local attractions and improving the overall visitor experience.

Representatives of tourism-related organisations and associations shared their suggestions for accelerating tourism development in the district.

Among those present were Resident Deputy Collector Machhindra Sukate, Deputy Collectors Pratibha Varale and Aarti Desai, Konkan Division Deputy Director Dr Prabha Manohar, Executive Engineer Akash Chakor, District Planning Officer Yashwant Budhawale and officials from various government departments.
