In a bizarre and unsettling turn of events, Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur recently witnessed a peculiar case of theft that has left the community reeling. The victim? A hefty 120-kilogram goat belonging to a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Suresh Gupta.

The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, has sparked widespread astonishment and dismay among the residents of Ambikapur. Miscreants, arriving in an eye-catching Rs 18 lakh car, brazenly made off with the prized goat from Gupta’s residence on February 8th.

Caught on CCTV, the audacious theft has since become the focal point of conversation in the town, with many expressing disbelief over the audacity of the crime. Shockingly, reports have surfaced indicating that the stolen goat was promptly slaughtered and sold at a mutton shop for a staggering sum of Rs 27,000.

Despite efforts by the local police, who have launched an investigation into the matter, the whereabouts of the stolen goat remained unknown for over a week. Gupta, incensed by the incident, lodged a formal complaint at the Raghunathpur Police Station, urging swift action to recover his beloved animal.

Following pressure from Gupta and the BJP, law enforcement authorities intensified their efforts, leading to a breakthrough in the case. A special police team managed to apprehend two suspects allegedly involved in the theft, both of whom were found to have a history of criminal activities.

Identified as Ameer Husain, aged 30, and Raja, aged 24, the accused hail from different areas within Chhattisgarh. Husain, in particular, has a track record of engaging in unlawful activities, having previously faced penalties for thefts committed in Maharashtra’s Gondia.

The arrest of the perpetrators, however, provides little solace to Gupta and his family, who are deeply distraught by the loss of their cherished goat. Described as more than just a pet, the animal was said to possess extraordinary qualities, with some even claiming it had the ability to communicate and mimic human behaviors.

The incident has not only underscored the vulnerability of citizens to crime but has also raised questions about the efficacy of law enforcement in ensuring public safety. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this peculiar theft, it serves as a stark reminder of the challenges confronting the state’s law and order apparatus, where even elected representatives are not immune to acts of criminality.
