In a horrifying turn of events, a church leader was brutally stabbed multiple times while delivering his sermon in Sydney, Australia, on Monday. The incident unfolded during a live stream of the service, with the assailant captured on camera attacking the church leader and three worshippers inside the Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, Sydney’s west, around 7 PM.

The attack, which occurred in the midst of the sermon being live-streamed, sent shockwaves through the community as the assailant approached the church leader, clad in a black hoodie, and proceeded to stab him with a sharp object.

As the assault unfolded, the victim fell to the ground, where the attacker continued the vicious onslaught by repeatedly stabbing him in the face and head. Reports suggest that the bishop was delivering an Assyrian Bible Preaching when the attack took place.

Amidst the chaos, some brave churchgoers attempted to intervene and rescue the bishop, but the assailant went on to target others present in the church. The live stream was promptly halted by church authorities as the situation escalated.

Following the attack, unrest spilled onto the streets of Fairfield, with angry crowds reportedly targeting police vehicles in response to the shocking assault.

The priest, identified as Mar Mari Emmanuel, known for his pro-Palestinian activism and visits to Gaza, sustained injuries but survived the attack. He has been transported to Liverpool Hospital for treatment.

Swift police action led to the apprehension of the attacker, a youth in his twenties, whose image circulated on social media showing him smiling, seemingly proud of his reprehensible actions. The New South Wales (NSW) Police confirmed the arrest and reassured the public that the injured victims were receiving treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics.

While investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack, the NSW Police have launched a comprehensive inquiry into the matter and promised updates as they become available.

In an official statement, the NSW Police said, “A police operation is underway in Wakeley, following reports of a stabbing. Officers arrested a male, and he is assisting police with inquiries. The injured people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.”
