The Maharashtra government has decided to provide Y+ security cover to six Members of Parliament belonging to the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction. According to information available, the state Home Department issued an official order in this regard on June 17.
As per an order issued by State Intelligence Department Commissioner Shirish Jain, Y+ security has been granted to MPs Sanjay Deshmukh from Yavatmal, Sanjay Bandu Jadhav from Parbhani, Sanjay Dina Patil from North Mumbai, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar from Hingoli-Nanded, Omraje Nimbalkar from Dharashiv, and Bhausaheb Wakchaure from Shirdi.
Sources said that the security review was conducted after recent political developments and discussions surrounding the possibility of a separate group being formed in the Lok Sabha. Based on an assessment report submitted by the State Intelligence Department, the Home Department reportedly decided to enhance security for the six parliamentarians.
The move has triggered political discussions across Maharashtra. The decision comes at a time when there is increasing focus on reducing public expenditure and reviewing VIP security arrangements. As a result, the granting of additional security cover to the MPs has become a topic of debate in political circles.
However, the Home Department has not issued any official clarification regarding the specific reasons behind the security upgrade.
