Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Hemant Godse has taken legal action after a video purportedly featuring him alongside a woman surfaced on social media, sparking controversy. Godse has vehemently denied the authenticity of the video, labeling it as morphed, and has lodged a formal complaint with the Nashik police, urging them to probe the matter and identify those responsible for its creation and dissemination.

In an interview with Indian Express, Godse reiterated his stance, asserting that the video in question is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation. “It is a morphed video. I have filed a complaint with the Nashik police and urged them to investigate who is behind this attempt to defame me,” he stated. Godse, who hails from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, remains resolute in his assertion of innocence regarding the viral footage.

The 53-year-old leader, currently serving his second term as MP from the Nashik constituency, has been a stalwart of the Shiv Sena since 2013. His political journey saw him transition from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), where he spent over six years, to joining the Shiv Sena in 2013, just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

Godse’s entry into the Shiv Sena proved to be a pivotal moment in his political career, culminating in his triumphant electoral victory from the Nashik constituency. Notably, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he secured a decisive victory over NCP heavyweight and former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal by a margin of 1,87,336 votes. Subsequently, in the 2019 elections, he further solidified his electoral dominance by defeating Bhujbal’s nephew, Samir Bhujbal, by an impressive margin of three lakh votes.

The emergence of the viral video has added a new dimension to Godse’s political journey, underscoring the challenges faced by public figures in the digital age. As investigations unfold and efforts to ascertain the authenticity of the video intensify, the Shiv Sena MP remains steadfast in his quest to clear his name and uphold his integrity amidst the storm of controversy.
