In a significant move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has revoked the tickets of two sitting MPs, reshuffling its lineup in preparation for the electoral battle. The decision follows a recent meeting between Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and BJP leader Amit Shah to discuss the seat-sharing formula.
The affected constituencies include Hingoli, represented by Hemant Patil, and Yavatmal-Washim, held by Bhavana Gawali. Patil has been replaced by Baburao Kadam Kohlikar, while Gawali’s position has been filled by a new candidate. In an attempt to address internal dissension, Hemant Patil’s wife, Rajashree, has been nominated to contest for the Hingoli seat.
The strategic reallocation of tickets underscores Shiv Sena’s determination to assert its dominance in Maharashtra politics and reinforce its position within the ruling coalition. With the BJP-led NDA setting ambitious targets, including winning more than 45 seats in the state, every electoral move is crucial in shaping the political landscape.
Meanwhile, the BJP core committee in Maharashtra has been actively strategizing for the upcoming elections. A recent meeting with cluster in-charges focused on evaluating the status of all 48 constituencies and formulating winning strategies. Emphasizing a comprehensive approach, cluster chiefs were instructed to prepare for elections with the mindset of ensuring victory in each constituency, treating every contest as if Prime Minister Modi himself were the candidate.
The meticulous planning and organizational efforts reflect the high stakes involved in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with political parties leaving no stone unturned to secure electoral success. As the campaign intensifies, Maharashtra’s political arena is set for a dynamic contest, with parties vying for supremacy and electoral advantage.
