Sharad Pawar says Rajput case should not meet the same fate as Dr. Dabholkar murder case

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar has said that he is confident that the Maharashtra government will respect the judgment of the Supreme Court to handover Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and they will fully cooperate in the investigation process.

Taking to twitter this morning, Pawar also took potshots at the premier investigating agency by making a subtle reference of rationalist Dr. Narendra Dabholkar murder case and said that the investigation will not be carried on similar to it.

He said Dr. Dabholkar’s murder case is also being investigated by the CBI which commenced in the year 2014 and still remains unresolved.

Yesterday, hours after the judgment by the apex court, Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh welcomed the decision and said that the Mumbai police will cooperate with CBI in its investigation.

Rajput was found hanging in June, the Mumbai Police started a probe and recorded statements of 56 people, including the late actor’s sisters, actress Rhea Chakraborty and some other film personalities.

Rajput’s father K K Singh had lodged a separate complaint with Patna Police in connection with the actor’s death and the Bihar government later recommended a CBI probe into the case.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the transfer of the FIR, lodged in Patna against Rhea Chakraborty and others for allegedly abetting Rajput’s suicide, to the CBI.

The apex court said the Bihar government is competent to transfer the case to the CBI for investigation.
