Mumbai: Seeking to defend the Mumbai police, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday argued that the Supreme Court of India did not find any fault with the investigation of the Mumbai police in the Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged suicide case. He termed the apex court’s observations as a matter of pride for the Mumbai police. Deshmukh while welcoming the apex court judgment stated that the state government will extend full cooperation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case.
Commenting upon the Supreme Court order, the Maharashtra Home Minister remarked “Under the federal structure of Indian constitution Maharashtra should have the right to request CBI inquiry in this case as the incident happened in Maharashtra, the state was denied its Right. Now we must think on this issue, but as it is the SC order we will obey it and hand over the probe to the CBI. The Leader of the Opposition is trying to politicize the issue. With assembly elections coming up soon in Bihar, some leaders are playing politics with that in mind. But the Supreme Court has said that the Mumbai Police has done a proper investigation and that is more important”, said Anil Deshmukh.
He however, declined to comment on whether the state government will file an appeal against the order.

The Supreme Court has directed the CBI to probe the death of Sushant Singh. The court, while delivering its judgment, asked the Mumbai police to hand over all the evidence to the CBI. It has also asked the CBI to co-operate in the investigation. The apex court said the FIR filed against Rhea Chakraborty in Patna was justified.
