Mumbai: In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s timely decision for a total lockdown till April 14, has affected Daily Wagers, Labourers, and migrant workers across the country are the most. In a bid to ease the hardships and suffering of the people and stray animals alike, the Giants Welfare Foundation has launched several welfare initiatives in Mumbai and through its branches and groups all over Maharashtra, this was disclosed by Shaina N C, World Chairperson, Giants Welfare Foundation.


The Giants Welfare Foundation one of India’s leading social service organizations working towards the upliftment of society and help for the underprivileged across India and Overseas has always risen to the occasion with their selfless service and so also now to help those in distress as a result of the pandemic and subsequent lockdown. 

In Maharashtra, more than 50 Groups and Branches have been helping 10,000 people daily and to date, we have helped 1,50,000 needy across the state. The Group has so far distributed 20,000 masks and 10,000 Sanitizers and helped our front line warriors … doctors, nurses, cleaners and other workers with food, masks, water and other essential items. About 50 Hospitals have been provided with necessary items for use by the Corona Warriors.

The Gaints Welfare Foundation has launched two projects – NESH – ‘Nobody Ever Sleeps Hungry’ and ‘Hunger Door Karona’ providing relief to thousands of people across Mumbai.  Another novel project which is the need of the day is Free Psychological Counseling for Mental stability.

Many citizens are going through stress, fear, and anxiety over the current situation.  Hence the Gaints Welfare Foundation has stated Free counseling by Psychological Counselor and Legal Advisor Fatema Kagalwala is now available by our Giants members. The Giant’s Group of Island City members have undertaken the ‘Hunger Door Karnoa’ project as a relief response to the lockdown in the country. The group has distributed more than 50,000 cooked food packets and more than 14,000 water bottles to the homeless and daily wage earners in Mumbai. Besides provisions, the group is also educating them about proper hygiene and the importance of social distancing. The group considers itself fortunate to able to provide food at a minimal cost Rs 20 to the civic staff and emergency service providers that are often overlooked. We are determined to reach out to more people throughout Mumbai.

In association with ANUM Foundation the Giants Group donated 40 ration food kits daily to 40 tribal families for a month. Also, 50 Kgs of all grains and pulses will be sent in two days. The Giants Group are also helping and feeding stray animals with the help of “World for All Animal Care and Adoption”, Taking note of the requirement of masks and protective gear the Giants Group has donated 50 N95 masks and 50 pieces of protective gear (head to toe) for doctors and para-medical staff at Nair and Kasturba Hospitals.
