On Monday, the stock markets concluded on a positive note, with the Sensex reaching 67,127.08, marking a gain of 528.17 points. In a historic milestone, the Nifty broke through the 20,000 mark for the first time, closing at 19,996.35, up by 176.40 points.
The Nifty Bank index also witnessed a significant uptick, surging by 414.30 points to settle at 45,570.70.
Among the notable gainers from the Sensex group were Power Grid Corp, Maruti Suzuki, Axis Bank, HCL Tech, and SBI. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance and Larsen were among the underperformers.
In the Nifty 50 category, major gainers included Adani Ports, Adani Enterprises, Power Grid Corp, Apollo Hospital, and Axis Bank. Conversely, Jio Financial, Coal India, ONGC, Larsen, and Bajaj Finance recorded losses.
It’s worth noting that Nifty reached its latest record high in just 36 trading sessions, a remarkable achievement, especially considering it took 52 sessions to climb from 19,000 to 20,000.
Although there were expectations of Nifty hitting the 20,000 mark in July, it narrowly missed the milestone by just eight points, reaching a record high of 19,992.
The trading day on Monday began with optimism, as the Sensex opened at 66,776.97, marking a gain of 178.06 points. Simultaneously, the Nifty started at 19,883.90, showing an early gain of 63.95 points.
In the currency market, the Indian rupee experienced a marginal decline of 1 paisa, settling at 83.03 (provisional) against the US dollar.
