Selective Outrage, Silent on Justice Yadav: Congress MP Singhvi Slams BJP’s ‘Double Standards’ on Judiciary

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of maintaining “selective outrage and eloquent silence” over judicial controversies, including those surrounding Justice Varma and Justice Yadav.

Speaking at a press briefing, Singhvi said the BJP is “playing a game of optics rather than law” in its handling of judicial propriety, particularly in matters of judicial accountability.

“We are also very concerned about this selective outrage and selective silence on the Justice Varma, Justice Yadav two judges’ issues. This is typical BJP’s double standard. The BJP’s game of motions is less about law and more about optics,” Singhvi said.

He further alleged that the BJP does not practice what it preaches when it comes to anti-corruption and judicial transparency.

“On judicial propriety, on anti-corruption movement and on judicial accountability, the BJP’s mantra is talk the talk, never walk the walk,” he added.

Referring to the recent friction between the government and former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Singhvi hinted that Dhankhar’s independence may have been perceived as disloyalty by the ruling party.

“It appears that Mr Dhankhar’s showing of some minimal independence, possibly belatedly, was his real mistake. No other mistake,” Singhvi remarked, suggesting that even minor divergence from the party line is treated as defiance.

He then raised a pointed question:”In this climate of selective outrage and politicised morality, we must also ask the question from both former Vice President Dhankhar and the Government of India as to this continuing eloquent silence on Justice Yadav.”

Singhvi accused Justice Yadav of making politically tinted remarks while still serving as a judge.

“You are so particular about Lok Sabha versus Rajya Sabha, but you maintain this remarkably eloquent silence on Justice Yadav, a person whose comments as a sitting judge read more like manifestos of a political party than any legal reasoning,” he said.
