The Supreme Court has slammed Nupur Sharma on Friday for the controversial remark on Prophet Mohammad and Islam. The court said that she is single handedly responsible for the chaos in the country and she should apologize to the whole country.
“We saw the debate on how she was incited. But the way she said all this and later says she was a lawyer, it is shameful. She should apologise to the whole country,” Justice Surya Kant said.
The SC was reacting to a petition by Sharma to transfer all FIRs filed against her over the comments to Delhi. She was facing threats, her lawyer said.
“She faces threats or she has become security threat? The way she has ignited emotions across the country.
This lady is single handedly responsible for what is happening in the country,” Justice Kant said. “She and her loose tongue has set the entire country on fire.”
The court also pulled up the TV channel on which Sharma, appearing in her capacity as the BJP’s spokesperson, made the comments.
“What is the business of the TV channel to discuss the matter [Gyanvapi Mosque issue], which is sub-judice, except to promote an agenda?”, the bench said. “There was provocation from the other debater,” Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for Nupur Sharma, said.
