Kolkata: Former police volunteer Sanjay Roy, who was convicted for the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has denied his involvement in the crime, claiming that he was falsely implicated.
During the proceedings in Sealdah Court, Roy, who was captured on CCTV near the hospital’s seminar hall where the victim was found murdered, argued that the actual perpetrators were being allowed to go free. “I have been falsely implicated. I have not committed this crime. The real culprits are being let go, one of whom is an IPS officer,” Roy told the court.
Roy’s conviction, nearly five months after the brutal crime, has sparked outrage, and he now faces sentencing. The Sealdah Court has scheduled the hearing of his final statement on Monday, January 20, when the quantum of his punishment will be announced.
