Sanjay Raut Backs No-Confidence Motion Against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Calls It Necessary for Democracy

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has expressed strong support for the opposition’s move to bring a no-confidence motion against Om Birla, saying the proposal is being taken “very seriously” by opposition parties.

Raut said the motion has become necessary due to what he described as the Speaker’s conduct during parliamentary proceedings, which he claimed was not in line with democratic principles.

“We are taking that proposal very seriously. The way Om Birla presented his role in the Lok Sabha against democracy, in such a situation the opposition has one weapon — to bring a no-confidence motion against him and hold a discussion,” Raut said while reacting to the developments in Parliament.

Opposition Unites Over Speaker’s Role

The comments come amid growing tensions between the ruling alliance and opposition parties during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament.

Several opposition leaders have accused the Speaker of not allowing adequate discussion on issues raised by opposition members and of restricting speaking opportunities for key leaders, including Rahul Gandhi.

Opposition parties argue that the Speaker must remain neutral in order to maintain the trust of all members of the House.

No-Confidence Motion Seen as Key Political Move

Political analysts say the opposition’s move to bring a no-confidence motion against the Speaker is a significant step because such motions are rare in parliamentary practice.
