In a recent development, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray, has strongly criticized Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar and the Shinde government. Raut expressed his discontent, labeling the Speaker’s decision regarding Shiv Sena as completely illegal.
The controversy arose when Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar recently made a decision on the disqualification case involving 16 MLAs, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In a surprising ruling, the Speaker declined to disqualify these MPs. This decision had significant implications, as the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena was considered by many as the authentic representation of the party. Moreover, the Speaker acknowledged Eknath Shinde as the leader of the legislature party based on the party constitution.
Sanjay Raut conveyed his dissatisfaction during an interview with CNN-NEWS18, stating, “The Speaker’s decision regarding Shiv Sena was completely illegal. We provided all the evidence to the Election Commission, and we made the information public. However, instead of addressing the evidence, the Speaker’s mask was removed, and subsequently, our people started receiving messages from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax (IT) department.”
According to Raut, ED notices were sent to the homes of prominent leaders who had shown an inclination to join Shiv Sena (UBT), accompanied by threats discouraging their association with the party. Raut denounced this as a form of political intimidation, suggesting that individuals are being coerced to avoid affiliating with Shiv Sena (UBT) to influence upcoming elections.
During the session, Assembly Speaker Narvekar read out the essence of the 1,200-page resolution concerning the petition to disqualify members of the Shinde faction within the House. The Speaker declared the Shinde faction as the authentic representation of Shiv Sena, asserting that Eknath Shinde, with the support of 37 out of 55 MLAs, would continue as the Chief Minister.
The ongoing dispute between Shiv Sena factions and the Speaker’s controversial decision have added a layer of complexity to Maharashtra’s political landscape, bringing attention to the intricacies of party representation and internal conflicts within the state assembly.
