Political Temperature Soars Amid Defection Rumours
A fresh political storm has erupted in Maharashtra as speculation over a possible split within Shiv Sena UBT intensified, prompting senior party leaders to launch an aggressive defence of the organisation.
At the centre of the controversy is senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, who mounted a fierce attack on those suspected of being involved in the alleged rebellion while warning that the party would not remain silent amid reports of defections.
Sanjay Raut Levels Explosive Allegations
Addressing the media, Raut claimed that efforts were underway to engineer a split within the party and made sensational allegations regarding the movement of MPs.
“I have information that Rs 15 crore each was delivered to the MPs, after which they boarded charter flights from three places, including Nanded and Pune. We have issued a whip for the Parliamentary Party Meeting tomorrow. Arvind ji (Arvind Sawant) has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker.”
The remarks have added a new dimension to the political drama unfolding in Maharashtra.
‘If Anyone Wants to Go, They Can Resign’
Raut also challenged those allegedly considering a switch, insisting that elected representatives should openly declare their intentions.
“If anyone wants to go, they can resign and leave. If such reports emerge about our MPs, then they should refute them. This time, the people of Maharashtra will not remain silent.”
The statement is being viewed as a direct warning to any leaders contemplating a political exit.
Arvind Sawant Seeks Constitutional Safeguards
As rumours continued to swirl, Shiv Sena UBT leader Arvind Sawant sought to project confidence while confirming that steps had been taken to protect the party’s position.
“I have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla over safeguarding the Constitution. Until now, no party leader has told us that they are leaving.”
His remarks suggest that, despite widespread speculation, no formal communication regarding defections has reached the party leadership.
Anil Desai Defends Raut Over Controversial Remarks
The controversy widened after Raut used strong language while addressing suspected rebels during a press conference. Responding to criticism, party MP Anil Desai came to his colleague’s defence and attempted to downplay the remarks.
“Whatever is said, these are slangs, it is not meant for anyone particularly. When an emotionally sensitive person, who has spent 50 years of his life in politics in the public sphere, speaks, such things happen. He also clarified that he wasn’t addressing any particular person.”
The clarification was aimed at reducing tensions within the party amid the ongoing turmoil.
Maharashtra Politics Heads for Another Showdown
The latest developments have triggered intense speculation about the future of Shiv Sena UBT and whether another round of political realignment is on the horizon.
