West Bengal Post-Poll Unrest: Gunfire in Sandeshkhali Leaves Five Security Personnel Injured

Fresh tensions have erupted in West Bengal after a late-night firing incident in Sandeshkhali left multiple security personnel injured, intensifying concerns over post-election unrest.

Firing During Patrol Operation
According to initial information, the incident took place in the Baman Gheri area when police teams and central forces were on routine night patrol. Unidentified attackers allegedly opened fire, catching the personnel off guard and triggering panic in the area.

Five Personnel Injured
Among those injured were local police officials, including the officer in charge of Nazat Police Station, along with other personnel from nearby units. Two members of central forces were also hit during the firing. All injured individuals were immediately evacuated and provided medical attention.

Shifted for Advanced Treatment
After initial care at a nearby rural hospital, the injured were moved to medical facilities in Kolkata for further treatment. Officials have not yet disclosed their current condition.

Security Tightened in Sensitive Areas
Following the attack, security presence has been significantly increased across Sandeshkhali and adjoining regions. Additional forces have been deployed to prevent further incidents and maintain order.

Top Officials Issue Directions
In response to the escalating situation, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar directed senior administrative and police officials to intensify monitoring. District authorities and top police leadership have been instructed to remain on active patrol to control the situation.

Tensions Rise After Polls
The firing incident has added to the growing concerns over post-election violence in the region, with authorities closely monitoring developments and investigating the attackers’ identity and motive.
