Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya announced his resignation from the post of the party’s national general secretary on Tuesday. In his resignation letter addressed to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Swami Prasad Maurya expressed his intention to continue working to strengthen the party without holding any official position.
A member of the state legislative council, Maurya had previously switched from the BJP to the Samajwadi Party ahead of the 2022 polls. Despite contesting the assembly elections from Fazilnagar, he did not secure victory.
Maurya has often been known for making controversial statements, particularly regarding the Ramcharitmanas and the Ayodhya temple consecration ceremony. His resignation from the post of national general secretary marks a significant development within the Samajwadi Party leadership.
