Rohit Pawar Targets Maharashtra CID During Pune Visit
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar launched a sharp attack on Maharashtra’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) during his visit to the CID Headquarters in Pune, alleging that the agency had failed to act seriously in the investigation related to the Ajit Pawar plane crash case.
Questioning the functioning of the department, Pawar claimed that the CID, once regarded as one of the country’s most respected investigative agencies, had now “lost its credibility.”
“CID was once a very respected department, even compared with international agencies. During the Congress rule, cases were quickly resolved,” Rohit Pawar said while speaking to reporters outside the headquarters.
‘Officers Become Angry When Questioned’
The MLA alleged that despite submitting documents and repeatedly following up over the last six months, officials failed to take meaningful action in the case.
“But now, in the last six months, despite our efforts and documents, officers have not acted seriously. When questioned about efficiency, they become angry. Today, CID has lost its credibility,” he said.
Invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier remarks about shutting down “useless departments,” Pawar said the CID had unfortunately become one such institution.
“As PM Modi has said, useless departments should be shut down, unfortunately CID has become one of them,” he remarked.
Demand For CBI Investigation Intensifies
Rohit Pawar also renewed his demand for transferring the Ajit Pawar plane crash investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation, claiming there were delays and lack of transparency in the probe.
“We demand that the Ajit Pawar plane crash case be handed to the CBI. Through RTI, we sought information, but replies were delayed or suppressed. DGCA also avoided responsibility,” he alleged.
According to Pawar, a central investigation agency would ensure a more transparent and impartial probe into the incident.
“We expect this investigation to be transferred to the CBI without further delay,” he added.
Political Heat Rises Over Investigation
The remarks are expected to intensify political tensions in Maharashtra, especially at a time when opposition leaders have increasingly questioned the functioning of investigative agencies and administrative transparency in sensitive cases.
The Ajit Pawar plane crash matter has remained politically sensitive, with repeated demands from opposition leaders for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
