“RJD Will Merge With My Party, Not the Other Way Around”: Tej Pratap Yadav’s Big Merger Claim After Lalu Prasad Visit

Patna: In a development that has stirred political and family conversations in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad made a surprise appearance at a Makar Sankranti ‘dahi-chuda’ gathering hosted by his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav on Wednesday. The visit came nearly eight months after Tej Pratap was removed from both the party and the family following a public controversy.

Despite ongoing health issues that usually keep him confined indoors, the veteran leader attended the feast at Tej Pratap’s residence, making the moment politically and emotionally significant. When asked by journalists whether he was displeased with his elder son, Lalu Prasad dismissed the suggestion, indicating there was no visible bitterness.

The event drew several prominent guests from Bihar’s political landscape, including Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with other senior figures. However, notable absences were also observed. Former chief minister Rabri Devi and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav did not attend the function, highlighting the continuing complexities within the Yadav family.

Tej Pratap Yadav, who had launched his own political platform, the Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), after his expulsion from the RJD, used the occasion to make strong political remarks. He reiterated that he enjoyed the blessings of his parents and remained confident about his political future. When questioned about a possible reunion with the RJD, Tej Pratap turned the narrative around, claiming that it was the RJD that would eventually align with his party.

The rift between Lalu Prasad and his elder son began last year after a social media post featuring Tej Pratap with a woman went viral. Lalu Prasad cited irresponsible conduct and breach of family discipline as reasons for expelling him. Tej Pratap later claimed his account had been hacked and removed the post, but the decision was not reversed. He later contested the Assembly elections independently from Mahua but failed to secure a victory.

Speaking confidently at the feast, Tej Pratap said the event would be a massive success, underlining the cultural and emotional importance of the occasion. He described his parents as divine figures in his life and expressed faith that their blessings would continue to guide him.
