Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday directed state police chief CV Anand to launch an immediate and detailed investigation into the POCSO case registered against Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
The Chief Minister also reportedly questioned the delay in police action after the case was registered earlier this month, intensifying political attention around the matter.
CM Seeks Fast-Track Investigation
According to officials, Revanth Reddy instructed the Director General of Police to ensure swift progress in the investigation and ordered the formation of special police teams to examine all aspects of the case.
The direction came after discussions regarding the status of the complaint registered at Pet Basheerabad Police Station in Hyderabad.
Government sources said the Chief Minister sought a comprehensive probe and asked officials to avoid delays in handling sensitive cases involving minors.
Police Cite PM Modi Visit Security Deployment
During discussions with the Chief Minister, senior police officials reportedly explained that a large section of the force had recently been deployed for security arrangements linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hyderabad.
However, the state government has now asked investigators to prioritise the case and accelerate legal and procedural action.
Minor Girl Filed Complaint Under POCSO Act
According to reports, a 17-year-old girl lodged a complaint on May 8 alleging that she was taken to a farmhouse near Hyderabad, where she was allegedly forced to consume alcohol and sexually assaulted on separate occasions.
Based on the allegations, a case was registered under relevant provisions including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The matter has since become politically sensitive because of Bhagirath’s connection to senior BJP leader and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Counter Complaint Also Filed
Meanwhile, Bandi Bhagirath has filed a counter FIR against the complainant and her parents.
In his complaint, he reportedly accused them of intimidation, harassment and attempted extortion.
Police officials are now expected to examine both complaints as part of the ongoing investigation.
Political Tension Likely to Rise
The case has already triggered political discussion in Telangana, with the ruling Congress government and BJP expected to clash over the handling of the investigation.
The Telangana government has indicated that the matter will be pursued strictly under legal procedures, while BJP leaders are yet to make a detailed public response regarding the allegations.
