The result of Maharashtra state board’s 10th standard is expected to be declared by 15th of July following which the board will conduct a Common Entrance Test to facilitate admissions to the junior college affiliated to the state board. State’s Education department stated in a government resolution late yesterday evening that CET is for uniformity & comparability in FYJC admissions and to ensure fair play for students across all boards. However, it also said appearing in CET is completely optional.

AIR correspondent reports that the CET will be based on the Std 10th curriculum of the state board. It will be held offline in the MCQ format for 100 marks, and for duration of two hours. Equal weightage out of the 100 marks will be for questions from the subjects of Eng, Maths, Science & Social Sciences.

The GR said though CET is entirely optional, but students who have given the CET will get preference for admissions on merit based on their CET scores. After their admissions, other students will be considered for admissions based on their evaluation as per the internal assessment in Std Xth. The GR informed that no examination fee will be payable by eligible state board students since they have already paid exam fee for the cancelled SSC board exams.

However, students from other boards will have to pay the stipulated fees to sit for the exams. The Resolution clarified that there are enough seats available in FYJC to accommodate all students adding that last year, 32 per cent seats had remained unfilled after all admissions.
