    Srinagar: The 74th Republic Day was celebrated with great fervour, gaiety and enthusiasm at District Police Lines Handwara. Personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, SSB, BSF, Home Guards and school children participated in the Republic Day function. 

    The Chairman, Municipal Committee Handwara, Masroor Ahmad Banday, accompanied by SP Handwara and ADC Handwara, unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march past at DPL Handwara. 

    The Chief Guest also inspected the parade presented by the contingents of District Police Handwara, IRP, SSB, CRPF, BSF and Home Guards.

     Addl. SP Handwara, Principal Government Medical College Handwara, officers from SSB, CRPF, Army, the Sub Registrar Handwara, Tehsildar Handwara, ZEO Handwara, Medical Superintendent DH Handwara, Executive Engineers of PHE, PDD, R&B Division Handwara, DDCs, BDCs and respectable citizens of PD Handwara and other officers of Police and civil administration were also present on the occasion.

    The Chief Guest, in his address, congratulated the participants for celebrating 74th Republic Day. The martyrs of Police and CAPF who sacrificed their lives for the nation were also paid rich and glowing tributes.

    A cultural programme was also presented in which students of different schools of PD Handwara participated. 

    The prizes and appreciation certificates were awarded to the members of JK Police, government employees from different departments including Social Welfare, Education, Health, among others, and members of civil society who have worked tirelessly in contributing to the betterment of the general public in Handwara. The recent Civil Service examination qualifiers from Handwara, Abid Hussain Lone, Nadia Shameem and Danish Amin Bhat were also felicitated and congratulated for their success. 

    The function culminated with a vote of thanks to all organisers, participants and members of the public who worked tirelessly to make the programme vibrant and memorable.
