Tensions escalated in the Parliament as Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed strong disapproval of Trinamool Congress’ suspended MP Kalyan Banerjee for mimicking him during a protest on the Parliament premises. Dhankhar labeled the mimicry as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘unacceptable,’ distinguishing the roles of the Chairman and Speaker and criticizing the act as shameful during the House session.

The incident occurred during a protest at Parliament’s Makar Dwar, where suspended MPs, including Kalyan Banerjee, gathered. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen filming the Trinamool MP’s actions, adding another layer of controversy to the situation.

Following the disruption caused by the protests, the House was adjourned till 2 pm, reflecting the gravity of the situation and its impact on parliamentary proceedings.

Amidst this, suspended members of the INDIA bloc parties, including Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, intensified their protest by rallying in front of the Gandhi statue on Parliament premises. Slogans against the Centre reverberated through the gathering, symbolizing the opposition’s discontent.

These protests unfolded after the suspension of 78 opposition MPs across both houses, a historical occurrence in Indian Parliament. The suspension, stemming from disruptions and chaos demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the Parliament security breach, saw 92 lawmakers facing suspension for the remainder of the ‘Winter Session.’

While 34 Rajya Sabha MPs, including notable figures from Congress like Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal, were suspended, 11 others faced inquiries by the Privileges Committee over their conduct during the uproar, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing parliamentary tumult.
