Rahul Gandhi’s ‘King’ Jibe at Assam CM Sparks BJP Retort: ‘Silver Spoon Leaders Shouldn’t Comment on Ground Reality’

Raipur: A political war of words has ignited after Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi took a sharp dig at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, calling him a “king” rather than a true people’s leader. Addressing a rally in Chhaygaon, Assam on Wednesday, Gandhi confidently predicted a Congress sweep in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections and accused Sarma of ruling like royalty, detached from the ground realities of the state.

Gandhi said, “He doesn’t think of himself as a Chief Minister but behaves like a king. The people of Assam will give a strong reply to this arrogance in the next election.”

The comments did not sit well with BJP leaders, with Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma firing back at the Congress scion.

Speaking to reporters, Sharma said, “He has never seen the ground reality. People who are born with a silver spoon should not talk like this.”

The BJP leader also accused Gandhi of indulging in “political theatrics” and ignoring the developmental work done under the leadership of CM Sarma in Assam.
