Rahul Gandhi Targets Assam CM Himanta Sarma, Alleges Corruption and Vows Accountability

Chaygaon: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a fierce political attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during his one-day visit to the state on Wednesday. Speaking at a public gathering in Chaygaon, Gandhi accused Sarma and his family of corruption and claimed that the people of Assam would ensure he faces legal consequences.

Gandhi said the Chief Minister behaves like a king but is afraid of being exposed by Congress workers. He added that people in the state were ready to hold him accountable.

The Congress leader also raised concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission, alleging that it is working closely with the BJP. He claimed that the voter lists were tampered with during the Maharashtra elections and the same is being tried in Bihar and Assam. He further criticized the media, saying it no longer represents the voice of the people and instead focuses only on big business and BJP leaders.

Highlighting growing inequality in the country, Gandhi said that India now seems divided between a rich, powerful class and common citizens struggling with inflation and taxes. He said the Congress is fighting this battle by standing for truth and non-violence, in contrast to the ideology of fear and hatred, which he linked to the BJP and RSS.

Reacting strongly, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi of using aggressive language and making baseless claims. Sarma posted on social media that Gandhi came to Assam only to target him and reminded the public that Gandhi himself is out on bail in several legal cases.
