New Delhi: Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday after former US President Donald Trump claimed that Modi had assured him India would halt imports of Russian oil.

Rahul Gandhi, representing Rae Bareli, accused the Prime Minister of repeatedly yielding to foreign pressure and failing to defend India’s strategic interests. On social media platform X, he wrote, “PM Modi is frightened of Trump. Allows Trump to decide and announce that India will not buy Russian oil. Keeps sending congratulatory messages despite repeated snubs. Canceled the Finance Minister’s visit to America. Skipped Sharm el-Sheikh. Doesn’t contradict him on Operation Sindoor.”

The Congress leader suggested that Modi’s actions reflected a pattern of deferential behavior toward the US, including missing key international events and postponing critical engagements. Rahul Gandhi emphasized that India’s foreign policy and energy strategy should be driven by national interest rather than external assertions.
