Rahul Gandhi Slams Election Commission: “Why Only Me? Why Not BJP for Same Allegations?”

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday escalated his attack on the Election Commission (EC), accusing it of adopting double standards in dealing with his allegations of “vote theft.” Gandhi questioned why he alone was being asked to submit an affidavit while the BJP, which had also raised concerns on voter data in recent days, was not subjected to the same demand.

“Why is the EC asking only me for an affidavit? The data I used is from the Election Commission. Why isn’t the BJP being asked the same when it made similar allegations just days ago?” Gandhi asked while addressing supporters during the ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.

The 16-day yatra, covering more than 20 districts and spanning 1,300 km, is aimed at highlighting what Gandhi and his allies describe as systemic manipulation of Bihar’s voter lists under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The march will culminate in Patna on September 1 with a massive INDIA bloc rally.

Reacting to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar’s recent press conference, Gandhi alleged that the SIR process was being misused to strike off names and suppress the votes of the poor, Dalits, and other marginalized groups. He further warned against what he called the government’s “backdoor changes” in electoral rules, pointing to proposed amendments concerning CCTV surveillance during voting.
