Mumbai: “Rahul Gandhi is intentionally and deliberately insulting freedom fighter Swatantryaveer Savarkar. It is an insult of Veer Savarkar and of the patriotic Indians. Rahul Gandhi is insulting Veer Savarkar, the son of Maharashtra since he was born here. This Marathi Manoos was made to suffer by the British in the cellular jail at Andaman-Nicobar islands during India’s freedom struggle. But he did not flinch. Insulting Savarkar is an insult to Maharashtra,” remarked Mumbai Bharatiya Janata Party president MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar.
Commenting on the remarks of Rahul Gandhi, Adv. Ashish Shelar said that the Congress has meted out as much insult as it could to humiliate him. Not just yesterday’s statement but Congress’ statement that Swatantryaveer Savarkar was a servant of the British was derogatory. What was worse is that the Congress had, a few years ago, in their official magazine had alleged that Swatantryaveer Savarkar was a homosexual.
The Mumbai BJP unit chief stated that the Congress has done as much as possible to attack Swatantryaveer Savarkar’s loyalty, faith and patriotism. Rahul Gandhi is intentionally insulting Swatantryaveer Savarkar. It is an insult to Veer Savarkar and to the patriotic Indians. Rahul Gandhi is insulting Maharashtra where this son was born. Insult of the Marathi Manoos, who suffered in the cellular jail for India’s freedom struggle, is actually an insult to the entire Maharashtra.
Shelar argued that when Congress insults Swatantryaveer Savarkar, it is actually insulting the Marathi Manoos and unfortunately the Shiv Sena is silent about it. “Why is Shiv Sena refusing to take any stance? Late Balasaheb Thackeray had insulted Mani Shankar Aiyer by physically hitting at his statue whereas Aaditya Thackeray is participating in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo yatra”, he asked.
The Mumbai BJP chief further quizzed, “Now why is Aaditya Thackeray silent? Why isn’t Aaditya Thackeray condemning Rahul Gandhi’s statement? Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray group is doing politics of distortion. Neither history nor Marathi Manoos or Maharashtra will ever forgive him. No patriotic citizen of this country will forgive Shiv Sena, Uddhav Thackeray Aditya Thackeray. There is immense anger among the public regarding the insult of Maharashtra.”
