New Delhi: Following the tragic stampede at TVK Chief Vijay’s rally in Karur on Saturday, which claimed 40 lives, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi personally called Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and TVK President Vijay to enquire about the incident and offer his condolences to the bereaved families.
The stampede has sparked political controversy, with BJP, TMK, and AIA TMK holding the DMK government accountable for the fatalities. Investigators are examining several factors contributing to the tragedy, including the venue selection. TVK President Vijay stated that the authorities approved a narrower location than the initially planned site, which may have exacerbated the situation.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who personally monitored the emergency response at the venue, announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for each family of the deceased and assured that the government is taking all necessary steps to support the victims.
