Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday appealed to citizens across the country to participate in the Congress’ protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, describing the alleged police action against student protesters as an issue that concerns every Indian family.
The appeal came as senior Congress leaders, including Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, staged a demonstration demanding accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak controversy and action against those responsible for the police crackdown during recent student protests in Delhi.
Rahul Gandhi Calls for Public Participation
In a message posted on social media, Rahul Gandhi accused the Centre of avoiding accountability and appealed to citizens to stand with students seeking justice.”An attack on students is an attack on every Indian family. PM Modi believes he can get away without answers, without consequences. He cannot. Not this time.”
Calling for wider participation in the agitation, he further said:”I ask every patriotic Indian who believes our students deserve justice to join us in the dharna in front of the Prime Minister’s residence.”
He concluded his message by asserting: “The voice of India’s students will not be ignored.”
Congress Leaders Meet Injured Protesters
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, where they met students and protesters who were injured during the police action linked to demonstrations over the alleged examination paper leak.
The visit formed part of the Congress’ ongoing campaign highlighting the issue inside and outside Parliament.
Party Renews Demand for Accountability
The Congress has continued to target the Centre over the alleged irregularities in public examinations, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and seeking a detailed discussion on the issue in Parliament.
The party has also called for accountability over the handling of student demonstrations, maintaining that concerns raised by aspirants deserve a transparent response from the government.
