Srinagar: A one-day session on suicide (You cannot Kill me) was conducted on September 28 at the Government Degree College (GDC), Langate by Qalbi (NGO) in collaboration with GDC Langate.
The session was started up by Ayesha Samad, while Shah Khursheed was the Facilitator for the Seminar. Dr. Neelofar Bhat Principal GDC Langate, Dr. Ibrahim Khawaja, Dr Reyaz Tawheedi, Dr Firdous (Nodal officer) , Dr Javid (Mental Health Expert, Qari Aamir Nazir, Mufti Ashraf, Fayaz Ahmad Wani and Shaista Masoodi (Research Scholar). were present.
The session was attended by 100 Students from the final and pre-final year of UGC.
The motive of the seminar was to create awareness amongst the teenagers about suicide and its preventions and the ways to discuss to stop suicides from happening.
Dr Firdous nodal officer Langate said the suicide cases are increasing day by day in Jammu and Kashmir it’s because of depression, unemployment and poverty. Focus of his talk was on how to cope up with depression or anything related to health issues. He also advised the students for routine health check-ups so as to prevent sufferings in the future.
Dr Reyaz Tawheedi, a senior lecturer from Government Higher Secondary School Handwara said on occasion it is a positive step towards change taken by Qalbi (NGO). It is the responsibility of every citizen, organization to organize such programmes as much as possible. “No Religion allows us to commit suicide or attempt one. I appeal to all religious preachers to make awareness programmes and campaigns possible”, said Dr Reyaz Tawheedi.
Principal GDC Langate Dr Neelofar while speaking to the media said organizing such programmes is important and plays a key role in stopping such social evils. “Suicide Cases are raising every day. I appreciate the Qalbi Team for such efforts and Activities that ultimately improves the morality of students”, she added.
Shaista Masoodi (Research Scholar) said such events are the need of our society. We need to appreciate such efforts and we need to motivate our teenagers for such steps.
Meanwhile, on behalf of Qalbi Organizer Qalbi extended a really hearty vote of thanks to the chief guests who spared time from their busiest schedule to grace the occasion. Organizer Qalbi while talking to the media said “Today we had an opportunity to hear the thoughts and this will surely be going to encourage us in our future events.” He also appreciated the efforts and the management done by Qalbi members.
