Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has raised concerns over seat safety on an IndiGo flight from Chandigarh to Delhi, sharing photos of broken and loosely placed cushions. His complaint comes a day after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted a similar issue with a defective seat on an Air India flight.
Taking to X, Jakhar expressed dissatisfaction with the state of airline safety and maintenance. “It seems broken seats, as pointed out by Sh @ChouhanShivrajji, are not the exclusive domain of Air India,” he wrote, posting images from his IndiGo flight on January 27. He further mentioned that while the cabin crew was courteous, they advised him to file a complaint on the airline’s website.
Slamming the “chalta hai” attitude of premier airlines, Jakhar called upon the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure strict adherence to safety norms. “This casual approach to aircraft maintenance should not extend to safety regulations,” he asserted.
IndiGo responded to Jakhar’s concerns, explaining that their aircraft seats have removable cushions secured by velcro for cleaning and maintenance. “On rare occasions, they may come loose and require repositioning for better comfort,” the airline stated. Assuring that passenger safety remains paramount, IndiGo emphasized that the overall seat design meets safety requirements.
