RBG Foundation Chairperson Madhura Gethe’s Heart-Warming Initiative

Mumbai: The unsung hands that build Mumbai’s skyline — from metro lines and flyovers to skyscrapers — celebrated a truly illuminated Diwali this year, thanks to a compassionate initiative led by Madhura Rahul Gethe, Chairperson of the RBG Foundation, Navi Mumbai.

Under the banner ‘Prakashbheet’ (Light of Joy), the foundation reached out to the labourers and women workers who work tirelessly behind Mumbai’s transformation into a “Smart City.” More than 100 construction workers and their families received sarees, dresses, sweets, and festive hampers, turning their modest homes into places of celebration and light.

’ A Saree from Home” – A Festive Gift for Women Workers

Many women labourers spend their days toiling on construction sites, often with their infants asleep beside them. To honour their strength and sacrifice, the foundation gifted them sarees — symbolic of affection and dignity — calling it ‘Maahearchi Saadi’ (A Saree from Home).
This gesture brought smiles, warmth, and a sense of belonging to women who usually remain on the fringes of the festive glow.

Building Mumbai, Brightening Lives

From the dust and concrete that create Mumbai’s expanding skyline, these workers contribute silently yet immensely. RBG Foundation’s initiative made sure their contributions were acknowledged, appreciated, and celebrated. It reminded the city that true development is not just about skyscrapers and metros, but also about the happiness of the people who build them.

Madhura Gethe’s Message

“We live in Mumbai, but the hands that build it often go unnoticed. Every household that shapes this city deserves to celebrate Diwali’s light and sweetness. Bringing joy to these families is our way of saying — their work matters, and their happiness matters even more.” — Madhura Rahul Gethe, Chairperson, RBG Foundation, Navi Mumbai
