Mumbai: In a shocking incident in Energy Minister Nitin Raut’s constituency, Nagpur, a case of power theft took place during Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s meeting on Thursday evening.

Load shedding has started in many places in Maharashtra due to the gap between availability and demand for electricity and also due to the lack of adequate coal. While temperatures are rising, the citizens are suffering in absence of power.

On Thursday, Nitin Raut had announced load shedding in areas where there is power theft and less recovery of bills. He had also asked for strict action against the power theft. A few hours after the announcement, his constituency was seen stealing the power for Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s meeting.

The power was stolen directly from Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company’s line for light arrangement and speakers in the meeting. The citizens are now asking to whom Minister Nitin Raut would punish for the crime? It is also shameful that load shedding is causing problems for agriculture, industries and the general public while power theft is taking place for the political parties.

However, Shiv Sena Nagpur chief Nitin Tiwari has denied the theft. He said “There was a temple of Gajanan Maharaj behind the meeting place and the power was taken with permission from them. We have asked the decorator if the lights were wrongly put there. We were not indulged in power theft,” he said.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company’s PRO Pravin Sthool said “We have taken a serious note of the matter and asked to conduct an inquiry. We would take strict action based on the report till evening.”

Reacting to the matter, Sanjay Raut said “I never knew about the power theft. We would set up an internal committee and conduct an inquiry.”

However, Nitin Raut said he was not aware of the matter.
