Power failure had no effect on BMC hospitals and Covid care centers

Mumbai: The power failure that occurred at 10:10 am on Monday, there was a sudden stir in Mumbai due to power failure However, this did not affect the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals and Covid care centers. Uninterrupted Power supply was ensured through power backup in hospitals. Corona patients and other patients did not face any problem due to disconnection of the electricity. BMC has installed automatic generator facilities in Covid centers and hospitals.

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said “preparations for a backup plan in case of power failure are maintained at hospitals for at least six to eight hours at BMC Hospital and Covid Center to deal with such an emergency. Due to which the power cut did not make any difference. BMC already has generator facilities in other hospitals including Kasturba, BYL Nair, King Edward Memorial (KEM), and Cooper which are used in emergency”.

BMC has resources to help not only BMC hospitals but also private hospitals as per the requirement. As soon as the power supply was disrupted in Mumbai Additional commissioner Suresh Kakani immediately contacted all the 24 wards and took stock of the electricity service situation in the Covid center and hospitals.

Also, in view of precautionary steps, the Solid Waste Management (SWM), was instructed to supply adequate diesel in all the departments. All were instructed to give their reports to the officers posted in the disaster control room every half an hour.

Mayor reached BKC Covid Center to take stock
 
To ascertain that there was no effect on the Covid Care centers due to the power cut, mayor Kishori Pednekar herself visited there and took stock. SHe inquired about the situation through video conferencing with all BMC hospitals and Covid Center officials.

Impact on water supply on Tuesday

Due to the power supply being stopped, the work of the water purification center located in Bhandup was hampered. The BMC has informed about the partial impact of water supply in some areas. Some areas could not get water supply on Monday. Even on Tuesday morning, supply will not be available in the areas where water is supplied. After Tuesday afternoon, water supply will be normal in all departments.
