On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt greetings to the citizens of India on Saturday, October 12. Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), he conveyed his wishes for victory and success in every aspect of life, saying, “Best wishes to the countrymen on Vijayadashami. With the blessings of Maa Durga and Lord Shri Ram, I wish that all of you achieve victory in every sphere of life.”

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is celebrated with immense fervor across the nation. It marks the culmination of the nine-day Navratri Utsav and Durga Puja celebrations. This significant festival symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and is considered an auspicious time for new beginnings.

The festival commemorates two pivotal narratives from Indian mythology. Firstly, it honors the victory of Lord Rama as depicted in the Ramayana, where he battles the evil king Ravana to rescue Goddess Sita from captivity in Lanka. The epic recounts that after a fierce struggle, Lord Rama defeated Ravana on Dussehra, representing the ultimate triumph of truth and virtue over malevolence.

Additionally, Dussehra celebrates Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura. According to legend, Maa Shakti fought valiantly for nine days and ultimately vanquished Mahishasura on the ninth day, restoring righteousness. This story symbolizes the strength of good and the courage to confront evil.

As festivities unfold across the country, the teachings of Vijayadashami remind citizens of the importance of righteousness, courage, and the relentless fight against injustice. Prime Minister Modi’s wishes resonate with the spirit of the festival, encouraging unity and perseverance among the people as they embrace new beginnings and strive for success in their endeavors.
